Barbaresco becomes part of the official list of typical Italian products with the certification DOCG (denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin) that was released on 30 November 2011.
Being a product DOCG certification requires that the entire production process must be carried out in the region of Piedmont.
The denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin Barbaresco is reserved for red wines types in Barbaresco and Barbaresco Riserva.
The production area of ​​the grapes used to produce wine Barolo DOCG includes some municipalities in the Province of Cuneo.
The types allowed are:
Barbaresco DOCG that when released for consumption must have the following characteristics:
– Color: ruby ​​red;
– Smell: intense and distinctive;
– Taste: dry, full-bodied;
– Minimum alcohol 12.50%;
– Aging in wood: 26 months including 9 wood.
Barbaresco DOCG Riserva that when released for consumption must have the following characteristics:
– Color: ruby ​​red;
– Smell: intense and distinctive;
– Taste: dry, full-bodied;
– Minimum alcohol content: 12.50%;
– Aging in wood: 50 months including 9 wood.
Grapes:
– 100% Nebbiolo
Serving temperature: around 18 ° C – 20 ° C.
Serving suggestions: Ideal with roasts, boiled meat, game and cheeses like Murazzano and Toma seasoned.
