Rice Po Delta joined the official list of typical Italian products with the certification PGI (protected geographical indication) that was released on 11 November 2009.
Being a product of PGI certification requires that at least one phase of the production process should be carried out in the regions of Veneto and Emilia Romagna.
The typical area for the production of rice in the Po Delta PGI extends cone eastern extreme of the Po plain between the regions of Veneto and Emilia Romagna, in the territories formed by the debris and restore the river Po, as well as from subsequent works of land transformation which have made possible the cultivation.
The soil of the Po Delta is particularly suitable for the cultivation of rice with its clean sea breeze.
Rice Po Delta PGI is the cereal belongs to the Japonica type, group Superfino, in varieties Carnaroli, Volano, Baldo and Arborio.
The varieties Arborio, Baldo and Flywheel are suitable for the preparation of delicious risotto, timbales and rice balls while Carnaroli is particularly suitable for prestigious risotto.
Rice Po Delta PGI is sold vacuum packed or in a controlled atmosphere, in bags suitable for food from the variable weight of 0.5, 1, 2, and 5 kg, which can be placed in containers of appropriate size to weight bag to prevent leakage of the product before the rupture of the package.
It ‘important to remember that the paddy can not insist on the same land for more than eight years, after which will go into rotation for at least two years.
