The Peach and Nectarine of Romagna joined the official list of typical Italian products with the certification PGI (protected geographical indication) that was released on January 21, 1998.
Being a product of PGI certification requires that at least one phase of the production process should be carried out in the region of Emilia Romagna.
The production area of ​​Peaches and Nectarines of Romagna PGI territories are present in the provinces of Ferrara, Bologna, Forli, Rimini and Ravenna. The Romagna produces over 50% of the Italian nectarines and 20% of the peaches.
The peach is ripe when it has the color of a yellow and a slight pressure of the palm is soft. The aroma is intense and characteristic.
Nectarine (commonly called nectarine) is consumed even in a less advanced stage of maturity, when the texture is still compact and is crunchy to the bite, the intense aroma is very important.
