The Aglianico del Taburno joined the official list of typical Italian products with the certification DOCG (denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin) that was released December 20, 2011.
Being a product DOCG certification requires that the entire production process must be carried out in the region of Campania.
The Denomination of Origin Controlled and Guaranteed Aglianico del Taburno, is reserved to the types, Red, Red Reserve or Reserve and Rosé.
The production area of ​​the grapes used in the production of Aglianico del Taburno DOCG includes some municipalities in the Province of Benevento.
Wines with designation of origin and guaranteed Aglianico del Taburno when released for consumption must have the following characteristics:
Aglianico del Taburno or Aglianico del Taburno Red
– Color: ruby ​​red of varying intensity, with garnet with aging;
– Odor: characteristic, persistent;
– Taste: dry, full-bodied;
– Minimum alcohol content: 12% vol.
Aglianico del Taburno Rosé
– Color: pink more or less intense;
– Odor: delicate, fresh, fruity;
– Taste: dry, harmonious, fresh, fine;
– Minimum alcohol content: 12% vol.
Aglianico del Taburno Red Reserve or Aglianico del Taburno Reserve
– Color: deep garnet red;
– Odor: characteristic, persistent;
– Taste: dry, balanced and full-bodied;
– Minimum alcohol content: 13% vol.
In relation to the possible preservation in barrels, the flavor of the wines can detect hints of wood.
– Aglianico, 85% minimum;
– The remaining part can contribute other red grapes, non-aromatic, suitable for cultivation in the province of Benevento and a maximum of 15%.
