The Greco di Tufo joined the official list of typical Italian products with the certification DOCG (denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin) that was released August 5, 2003.
Being a product DOCG certification requires that the entire production process must be carried out in the region of Campania.
The Denomination of Origin Controlled and Guaranteed Greco di Tufo, is reserved for wines, Greco di Tufo White and Greco di Tufo Sparkling.
The production area of ​​the grapes used to produce the Greco di Tufo DOCG includes eight municipalities of the Province of Avellino.
The wines of Denomination of Origin Controlled and Guaranteed Greco di Tufo when released for consumption must have the following characteristics:
Greco di Tufo White
– Color: straw yellow more or less intense;
– Smell: pleasant, intense, delicate, distinctive;
– Flavor: fresh, dry, harmonious;
– Minimum alcohol content: 11,50% vol.
Greco di Tufo Sparkling
– Foam: fine and persistent;
– Color: straw yellow more or less intense with greenish hues and golden;
– Odor: characteristic, pleasant, with a delicate hint of yeast;
– Flavor: fruity, fine and harmonious, like “extrabrut” or type “brut”;
– Total alcoholic strength: 12% vol.
– Greco White minimum 85%;
– Coda di Volpe White maximum 15%.
Serving temperature: around 10 ° C – 12 ° C.
Serving suggestions: excellent with fish and shellfish, with pasta dishes with vegetables.
