The Potato of Fucino joined the official list of typical Italian products with the certification PGI (protected geographical indication) that was released on April 28, 2016.
Being a PGI certification requires that at least one phase of the production process should be made in Abruzzo region.
The Potato of Fucino PGI must be planted, grown and harvested in the geographical area within the basin of the former Lake Fucino.
The Fucino Potato PGI must have the following characteristics to the consumer:
– Shape of tubers: from round to round-oval, oval, elongated oval
– Size: from 35 mm
– Pasta: firm, from white to yellow
– Edible part: no less than 95%
