The Giffoni hazelnut becomes part of the official list of typical Italian products with the certification PGI (protected geographical indication) that was released on November 25, 1997.
Being a product of PGI certification requires that at least one phase of the production process should be carried out in the region of Campania.
The production area of ​​Giffoni hazelnut PGI is concentrated in Salerno, especially in the valley and in the area dell’Irno Picentini where there are the 12 municipalities involved.
