The Plum Dro becomes part of the official list of typical Italian products with the certification PDO (protected designation of origin) that was released on 8 March 2012.
Being a product PDO certification requires that the entire production process must be carried out in the region of Trentino Alto Adige.
The production area of Plum Dro PDO, is situated in the Autonomous Province of Trento and is corresponding to a portion of the catchment area of the river Sarca.
The Plum Dro is blue with red highlights purple and yellow. The smooth skin as protection for this fruit, which once bitten reveals a soft pulp and sugar.
The contrast with the slightly sour taste of the peel makes it excellent also to make jams and cakes. And ‘rich in mineral salts, in particular potassium, and has a high content of vitamins, including beta-carotene (provitamin A) and vitamin PP.
