The Pepper Pontecorvo joined the official list of typical Italian products with the certification PDO (protected designation of origin) that was released November 13, 2010.
Being a product PDO certification requires that the entire production process must be carried out in the region of Lazio.
The Pepper Pontecorvo PDO is produced in the Province of Frosinone.
The pulp and the cuticle is thin and sweet taste. The characteristics that make it unique are its high flavor and its better digestibility associated with a thin skin. Is therefore less sour and slightly spicy, the fruit is full and trefoil, of cylindrical-conical elongated.
Seed production is performed directly in the company by farmers through a phenotypic selection (a method that allows to obtain a seed from the best plants).
Sowing is carried out in nurseries in the period between February 15 and April 15 and the collection must be manual and performed during the period from 1 July to 30 November.
The peppers should be kept as little as possible exposed to the sun, and once harvested pepper must wait three years before reseeding in the same soil.
The Pepper Pontecorvo PDO is grown in very fertile land, particularly rich in nutrients, which allow, in combination with the characteristics of rainfall in the geographical area, the cultivation of a product with a good flavor.
