The Apple of Val di Non joined the official list of typical Italian products with the certification PDO (protected designation of origin) that was released September 23, 2003.
Being a product PDO certification requires that the entire production process must be carried out in the region of Trentino Alto Adige.
In 2003 the European Union has given the apple varieties Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Renetta Canada Val di Non recognition PDO Protected Designation of Origin.

PDO Apple of Val di Non is reserved exclusively to the apples of Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Renetta Canada produced in Val di Non and they are first class and exceed the values of crunchiness and sugar content and natural acids established by Production Guidelines approved by the European Union.
