The Ribera Orange becomes part of the official list of typical Italian products with the certification PDO (protected designation of origin) that was issued on 4 February 2011.
Being a product PDO certification requires that the entire production process must be carried out in the region of Sicily.
Originally from Ribera, the cultivation of the Orange of Ribera PDO (Riberella) extends into the territories of 14 municipalities in the province of Agrigento. Its production begins in the first week of November with the variety Navelina and continues, from December until the end of May, with the variety Brazilian and Washington Navel.
The Ribera Orange, pleasant taste, is fleshed blonde and seedless. It contains vitamin A, B1, B2, vitamin C, minerals and sugars. Nutritional components has well balanced, easily absorbed and easily digestible. Just one orange to meet the daily requirement of vitamin C which is an antioxidant and helps to strengthen the immune system. It can be consumed as fresh fruit or juice. Indicated use in the kitchen in the preparation of appetizers, digestive, in the first and second courses. Excellent salad of oranges, sweets and desserts. It’s fine consumed in the evening for its high digestibility.
Brazilian and Washington Navel PDO
Both belong to the group of oranges umbilicate, for the characteristic navel into the lower that characterize and identify the world as good as the quality of orange juice and fruit. The fruits, spherical, orange and medium size large, have the fine pulp and soda, of extraordinary quality and seedless.
Navelina PDO
It too has a variety umbilicated blonde, but with less pronounced than the Washington navel. It differs substantially for its earliness that allows to anticipate the marketing in early November. It is suitable for growing in different environments. The fruits are spherical, have a very intense orange color and a medium size large. The pulp, without seeds, is with medium grain and soda and sweeter than Washinton.
